The West has developed instruments of reason that allows for strong recognition of the value of the individual versus subordination to the collective; and impressive development of self-perpetuating advanced communication and transportation systems. However, the modern West has been less successful at finding lasting and balanced solutions to social conflict among nations, even within the same civilization; and the ability to regulate science and technology.
