Thus, they jointly succeeded to eliminate the secular power of the Catholic Church on politics, economy, and society though it was the main figure of European politics throughout the Middle Age. The symbol of that elimination was the Treaties of Osnabrück and Münster, signed in 1648 after Thirty Years’ War (1618-1648), widely known as the Peace of Westphalia. No official from the Papacy was invited to negotiations or signatures of the cited agreement.
