In the beginning, Turks practiced shamanism in Inner Asia. During the first millennium CE, some small groups of Turks converted to Buddhism, Christianity, Judaism or Zoroastrianism. Some Uighurs also converted to Manichaeism. After their westward movement accelerated, Turks became Muslims.
