A decision support system has three essential soft components (sometimes called modules or subsystems). They are Data-Information Management Module, Model Management Module, and Dialog Management Module. Data management module of a DSS is developed to collect all the data from the corporate databases. Model management module of a DSS is in charge of running search or optimization algorithms, building all sorts of models such as mathematical and simulation models, archiving models for future use, computing formulas and performing sensitivity analysis. Dialog management is also known as user interface design (UI) and user experience design (UX). The dialog management is a liaison component between the end-users (managers or decision makers) and the DSS itself.
